Honey Lime Garlic Sauce and pan-fried salmon steaks
  • Salmon Steaks – for this recipe I used four medium-sized salmon steaks. This recipe can be made however with any cut of salmon you pick, however cooking times and methods may need to be adjusted to best suit your chosen cut of salmon.
  • Olive Oil – or any other vegetable oil. I love using olive oil because I simply love its rich flavour. Other oils you may use are Rapeseed oil or Sunflower oil. These two oils have a more neutral flavour and are relatively inexpensive.
  • Honey – I recommend using liquid honey because it is easier to blend with other ingredients to make your sauce or marinade.
  • Garlic – (freshly minced), it adds a stronger flavour and a slight texture to the salmon.
  • Garlic Powder
  • Chilli Flakes -(dried), although the chilli flakes are optional, I highly recommend adding them to the salmon as they are instrumental in balancing the sweetness of the honey and the earthiness of the garlic.
  • Soy Sauce – brings out the beautiful flavour of salom
  • Lime Juice – freshly squeezed
  • Sea Salt – to taste
  • Black Pepper – freshly cracked, to taste

Cooking Utensils:

  • Small mixing bowl
  • Bottom heavy frying pan
  • Silicone Basting Brush – a non-silicone basting brush can be used if this is to your preference.
  • Kitchen tongs

Variations & Substitutes

Essentially, we are making a honey-garlic sauce and applying it to our salmon. This honey-garlic sauce can be applied to most meats or vegan substitutes. Here are some ingredients which make a great substitute for salmon:

  • Chicken – marinate chicken pieces with the Honey Lime Garlic sauce for a minimum of 2 hours and place it in the oven at 205C for 35-45 minutes, or until a meat thermometer placed in the thickest part of the chicken registers 73°C for at least 60 seconds.
  • Paneer – Place the paneer in a bowl, add the Honey Lime Garlic sauce. Mix until well combined. Pan-fry until the paneer turns a golden brown colour.
  • Jackfruit – following the cleaning and shredding of your jackfruit, place it in a bowl and marinate it with the Honey Lime Garlic sauce. Hand mix until well combined. Leave to marinate for a minimum of two hours, then proceed to pan fry in a teaspoon of olive oil.

Storage

Properly stored in an airtight container, this Honey Lime Garlic Salmon will store for 3 to 4 days in the refrigerator.
